Witcher Wannabe – Witcher 3 Quest

This guide is a walkthrough of a side quest in the Witcher 3 for the area of Velen. The guide is composed of a map, map legend, and walkthrough to show readers exactly where to go and what to do to complete the quest.

1 – Crow’s Perch
2 – Oreton
3 – Downwarren
4 – Lindenvale
5 – Cemetery

Background

At some point while you’re in Velen (for us it happened after we completed the quest A Favor for a Friend), some “Witcher Wanted” notes will appear on the notice boards in Crow’s Perch (#1), Oreton (#2) and Downwarren (#3) saying that the ealdorman in Lindenvale is looking for a witcher to kill a “rampaging” monster. However, these notes won’t trigger the quest. To start it, you’ll have to go to Lindenvale and talk to the ealdorman (#4).

Note: Once you’ve taken one of the “Witcher Wanted” notes, the others will disappear, but their notice boards will still indicate that they have a new quest available.

Walkthrough

When you talk to the ealdorman, you’ll learn that somebody claiming to be a witcher came in response to one of his notes, but that he took advantage of the ealdorman’s hospitality and even impregnated his daughter before finally heading out to deal with the monster. When you ask the ealdorman where the witcher went, he’ll point you to the cemetery to the east.

At the cemetery (#5), you’ll encounter a single level 10 ghoul. After defeating it, when you turn on your witcher senses, you’ll detect the witcher’s footprints leading behind the chapel, where you’ll find him hiding. He’ll be wearing a witcher medallion, which he’ll claim he bought from a travelling peddler. Then the villagers will show up, and you’ll have four ways to respond:

  • You can protect the witcher’s secret but say he’s not allowed to return to the village. He’ll then leave without any punishment.
  • You can protect the witcher’s secret but say he has to work off his shame. He’ll then have to stop pretending to be a witcher, bury his medallion, and work for the ealdorman for a year.
  • You can reveal the witcher’s secret but order the villagers to let him go. He’ll then leave without any punishment.
  • You can reveal the witcher’s secret and order the villagers to take him to the ealdorman. He’ll then have his sword confiscated and his medallion destroyed, and he’ll probably have some important part(s) of his body chopped off.

Regardless of your choice, you’ll earn 85 xp for completing the quest.
