Thou Shalt Not Pass – Witcher 3 Quest

This guide is a walkthrough of a side quest in the Witcher 3 for the area of Velen. The guide is composed of a map, map legend, and walkthrough to show readers exactly where to go and what to do to complete the quest.

Background

There are two places where you can trigger this quest: at the border post between Velen and Novigrad (#1) or at the gate leading to Oxenfurt (#2).

Walkthrough

When you try to access an area where you’re not allowed, a Redanian soldier will stop you and tell you that you’ll need a pass in order to go through. The soldier at Oxenfurt won’t have any helpful advice for you, but the soldiers at the border post will hint that you can get a pass through the black market.

There are three ways to get a pass:

• The captain of the guard at the refugee camp near the border post (#3) will give you a Letter of Safe Conduct if you complete the quest Contract: Woodland Beast.
  
• The shady merchant at the refugee camp (#3) will sell you a Transit Pass during the quest Fake Papers.
  
• Later on in the game, you’ll also get a Letter of Safe Conduct during the quest Family Matters.

When you return to the soldiers with one of these passes, they’ll open up the gates to you, and you’ll earn 75 xp.
