The Suffering of Young Francois – Witcher 3: Blood and Wine Quest

This guide is a walkthrough of a side quest in the Witcher 3: Blood and Wine DLC. The guide is composed of a map, map legend, and walkthrough to show readers exactly where to go and what to do to complete the quest.

1 – Abandoned House
2 – Jewels

Background

At an abandoned house on the western side of Toussaint North (#1), you’ll encounter a level 47 wraith, and you’ll discover the corpse of a man hanging from a tree. After defeating the wraith, when you loot the corpse you’ll find the Journal of a Desperate Man. Reading the journal will trigger the quest.

Walkthrough

From the journal, you’ll learn that the dead man was tricked by a witch — the same one as from the quest A Knight’s Tales — and that there are jewels buried somewhere near Cutterin Manor to the east. The manor is an abandoned site, so you might have to fight two level 47 wraiths and a level 47 spriggan when you get there. But once you can turn on your witcher senses, you’ll detect the jewels next to the shrine on the southwestern edge of the property (#2). Among the (somewhat random) valuables, you should find at least one DiamondDimeritium OreInfused Crystal, and Ruby.

Note: After clearing Cutterin Manor, the workers will return and take away their dead. If you search the cart with the corpses, then you’ll find Charlotte’s Diary, which will tell you Francois’ story from his paramour’s side.
