The Cursed Chapel – Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone Quest

1 – Old Chapel

Background

At the Old Chapel in the Novigrad Far Outskirts (#1), you’ll discover a corpse holding a Crypt Key and the Pastoral Diary of Father Glaedfried. Reading the diary will trigger the quest.

Walkthrough

The diary will indicate that the chapel is cursed thanks to something the ealdorman’s wife did. As you explore the grounds, you’ll encounter a few 34 wraiths. Then when you go inside the chapel, you’ll get attacked by a nightwraith called the Cursed Mother. The nightwraith is roughly the same as all the other wraiths you’ve fought, so take advantage of the Yrden sign and hit her when she’s vulnerable. The Mother will drop a Nightwraith Mutagen when she dies.

After the battle, when you search the chapel you’ll find the ealdorman’s corpse on the eastern side. He’ll have some random loot on him, plus Eadberht’s Farewell Note, which will describe what happened to the ealdorman and his wife, and how the chapel came to be cursed. Looting the corpse will complete the quest.
