1 – Tomira’s Cottage

Background

You’ll receive this quest from Tomira in her cottage west of White Orchard (#1). You’ll only be able to enter the cottage after triggering the quest The Beast of White Orchard.

Walkthrough

Inside Tomira’s cottage, you’ll see a woman named Lena writhing in pain on a bed. When you ask Tomira about her, you’ll learn that Lena was wounded by a griffin, and that she’s going to die because of internal bleeding. The only way that you can save her is to give her a drink from a Swallow potion, which you might have to brew first. The Swallow potion requires Dwarven Spirit (x1), Celandine (x5), and Drowner Brain (x1). All of those ingredients are fairly common, so if you don’t have them all yet, then you might want to just keep adventuring for a while rather than spending your hard-earned money on them.

To give Lena a drink from the potion, you’ll need to talk to Tomira again. You’ll learn that it will take the potion multiple days to work — if it works at all — so you won’t see any immediate changes. But Tomira will give you a reward: the book Of Sweat and Blood, the recipe for Cursed OilVenom Extract (x2), 50 crowns, and 350 xp.

Note: After completing this quest, you can meet Lena’s secret lover, a Nilfgaardian soldier, at the Nilfgaardian Army Group “Center” Camp in Velen East. He’ll tell you that the potion didn’t work — that Lena is now more dead than alive — and that a clean death would have been better.
