1 – A Cut Above Hairdressing Salon
2 – Archespore
3 – Herb Basket
4 – Cave

Background

After completing the quest The Warble of a Smitten Knight, you’ll meet Le Papillon in front of the A Cut Above Hairdressing Salon in Beauclair (#1). Talking to Le Papillon will trigger the quest.

Walkthrough

Le Papillon will introduce himself as a troubadour and a great fan — of Dandelion. You might remember him from his performances at the Tourney Grounds. Le Papillon will tell you that Jean-Louis Ludovic, the owner of the nearby salon, has gone missing, and he’ll ask you to track him down. Le Papillon will also demand that you take him along so he can write a ballad about the adventure.

To learn more about Ludovic, you’ll need to enter his salon. The door will be locked, so you’ll have to knock it down using Aard. Inside, you’ll notice empty pomade jars and dull scissors, but you won’t find Ludovic, and you won’t see any evidence of violence or forced entry. Then when you go upstairs, you’ll discover Ludovic’s appointment book, which will contain Jean-Louis Ludovic’s Map. Assessing all of the evidence, you’ll decide that Ludovic simply ran out of pomade and went out to collect ingredients for it.

Le Papillon will claim that he can read the map, so he’ll lead you into the countryside south of the city. He’ll stop at two locations. At the first you’ll encounter a level 44 archespore (#2), and at the second you’ll find Ludovic’s herb basket (#3). If you turn on your witcher senses and search the area around the basket, then you’ll detect some blood and footprints. The footprints will lead you south and east to a cave.

Inside the cave (#4), you’ll discover that Ludovic gave the knight Beau Duvall a bad haircut, and that now Duvall is exacting his revenge. You’ll have two ways to respond:

  • If you point out that hair grows back, then Duvall and his squires will attack you, and you’ll have to kill them.
  • If you instead mention chivalry, then only Duvall will attack you, and you’ll only have to damage him enough to end the battle.

After the battle, Le Papillon will admit that he currently doesn’t have any money, but Ludovic will pay you 150 crowns for your help, and he’ll invite you to visit his salon. When you eventually go there (#1), you’ll see that Ludovic has a new hairstyle available: Queen’s Pageboy.
