No Place Like Home – Witcher 3: Blood and Wine Quest

This guide is a walkthrough of a side quest in the Witcher 3: Blood and Wine DLC. The guide is composed of a map, map legend, and walkthrough to show readers exactly where to go and what to do to complete the quest.

Background

You’ll receive this quest during the quest The Beast of Toussaint, when the duchess awards you the deed to Corvo Bianco Vineyard in Toussaint South.

Note: There is also a quest named No Place Like Home in the main game.

Walkthrough

The first time you visit Corvo Bianco Vineyard after becoming its owner, you’ll meet Barnabas-Basil Foulty out front. He’ll explain that he’s your majordomo, and then he’ll introduce you to the vineyard, first by telling you its history, and then by giving you a tour. After the tour, Barnabas-Basil will give you ideas for renovations. These renovations are listed below.

House

  • General beautification (5000 crowns, 3 days). This will add several armor stands, painting frames, trophy stands, and weapon racks to the house. It will also set up your bedroom with a library and a “noble” bed. Using the library will give you a “Well-Read” buff: +5% combat xp for 60 minutes. Using the bed will give you a “Well-Rested” buff: +500 vitality for 60 minutes. Sleeping on the bed will also add every other buff from the house (alchemy lab, library, and stables).
  • New bed (1000 crowns, 1 day). This will transform the bed into a “noble” version, which will improve its buff: +1000 vitality for 120 minutes.
  • Two additional armor stands (500 crowns, 1 day).
  • Two additional weapon racks (500 crowns, 1 day).
  • Refurbished guest room (1000 crowns, 2 days).

Grounds

  • Alchemy lab. After discovering the lab, using the bomb table or sleeping in your bed will replenish your bombs and potions with 1 extra charge each.
  • Armorer’s table (1000 crowns, 1 day).
  • Grindstone (1000 crowns, 1 day).
  • Stable (2000 crowns, 2 days). After repairing the stable, sleeping in your bed will give you a “Well-Rested Roach” buff: +100% to Roach’s stamina for 1 hour.
  • Garden (2000 crowns, 2 days). Your garden (located on the northern side of the estate) will produce Blue Lotus FlowersNazairi Basils, and Winter Cherries. You can use these ingredients to produce all types of Blue MutagensGreen Mutagens, and Red Mutagens.

During your renovations of the house, Barnabas-Basil will set up a bunch of places where you can display armor, weapons, trophies, and paintings. You probably won’t have any trouble finding the first three types of items. But for paintings, you can pick up three from the main game and Hearts of Stone DLC: Painting of Hierarch Hemmelfart (from A Poet Under Pressure), Portrait of Iris and Olgierd (from Scenes from a Marriage), and Starry Night over the Pontar (from Open Sesame). You can also gain several paintings during the Blood & Wine DLC: Portrait of Geralt (from A Portrait of the Witcher as an Old Man), Prison Poster (from The Perks of Being a Jailbird), The White Wolf, by Count Beledal (from Big Game Hunter), and no less than 19 paintings from the merchant next to Lazare Lafargue’s workshop in Beauclair. Finally, you can also hang up a pair of shields: Ancient Elven Shield (from Extreme Cosplay), and Ravix of Fourhorn’s Shield or Sir Geralt of Rivia’s Shield (from The Warble of a Smitten Knight).

At one point when you talk with Barnabas-Basil, he’ll suggest that you explore the basement. When you go down there, you’ll find a weak wall. After destroying it with Aard or your weapon, you’ll find two alchemy tables behind it. One will allow you to spend a strong alcohol to replenish your bombs and potions (just like you do when you meditate), only the bombs and potions will gain an extra charge. The other alchemy table will allow you to convert monster mutagens into Lesser Blue MutagensLesser Green Mutagens, and Lesser Red Mutagens.

You’ll be able to play Barnabas-Basil at gwent. You won’t get anything for beating him, but you’ll be able to practice against him. When you challenge him, you’ll be able to choose which deck he uses, and how good his cards are. But if you’ve already beaten all of the main game gwent quests, Barnabas-Basil probably won’t prove too difficult to defeat.

After completing the quests for Wine Wars, you’ll start receiving wine from Belgaard Vineyard every five days. You’ll find the shipments in the basement.

After finishing off the renovations, you and Barnabas-Basil will share a drink, and you’ll earn 200 xp for completing the quest.
