Lynch Mob – Witcher 3 Quest

This guide is a walkthrough of a side quest in the Witcher 3 for the area of Velen. The guide is composed of a map, map legend, and walkthrough to show readers exactly where to go and what to do to complete the quest.

1 – Hangman’s Alley

Background

When you approach Hangman’s Alley in Velen West (#1), you’ll encounter some peasants preparing to hang a Nilfgaardian army deserter. Stopping the peasants will trigger the quest.

Walkthrough

The peasants won’t care about your opinion on the matter, so if you want to stop them, then you’ll have to fight them. There will be four level 7-8 peasants, and they’ll be surrounding you at the start of the battle. So dodge around as necessary and take them out one at a time. You’ll earn 25 xp for defeating the peasants and saving the deserter.

If you let the peasants have their way, then they’ll hang the deserter, and you won’t trigger the quest at all. But afterwards you’ll be able to loot the deserter’s corpse, and you’ll find a Letter from Nilfgaardian’s Wife on his body. This will give some background information about why the soldier was deserting (to return to his wife and daughter), but it won’t lead to anything.
