1 – The Cockatrice Inn
2 – The Pheasantry

Background

You can trigger this quest in one of two ways: by playing gwent and winning a Skellige card, or by reading the note “The Great Beauclair Gwent Tournament” on a notice board. Both of these methods are available at the Cockatrice Inn in Toussaint North (#1).

Walkthrough

Regardless of your method of triggering the quest, you’ll learn that there’s a Gwent tournament being held at the Pheasantry in Beauclair (#2), and that it features a new faction — Skellige. When you head over to the inn, you’ll meet Count Martin Monnier in the courtyard outside. He’ll explain that he organized the tournament to advertise the Skellige deck, and that for you to participate, you’ll have to use that deck. He’ll then give you a Skellige starter deck, and he’ll suggest that you collect more Skellige cards. This is covered in the quest Gwent: Never Fear, Skellige’s Here.

Once you’ve collected enough Skellige cards, Monnier will allow you to enter the tournament, and he’ll tell you to come back in two days. When you eventually return, you’ll find Monnier waiting for you inside the Pheasantry. He’ll introduce you to your opponents in the tournament, and then he’ll get things started. To win, you’ll have to beat four people:

  1. Hamal ogn Dangbahli (monster deck). Before the game starts, Dangbahli will offer you a side bet — your silver sword for one of his swords. If you take the bet and win, then you’ll receive 100 xp plus a leveled version of the steel sword Blave. But if you lose, then don’t worry. You’ll get your silver sword back at the end of the quest.
  2. Ambassador von Hinn (Nilfgaard deck). After this match, several dwarves will try to break up the tournament. You’ll have to box three of them at once, but it shouldn’t be a difficult fight. Afterwards, when you mention Zoltan Chivay, the dwarves will look at you with more respect, and their leader Yaki Rafiberg will decide to enter the tournament and play the winner.
  3. Count Monnier (Skellige deck).
  4. Yaki Rafiberg (Scoia’tael deck).

If you win the tournament, then you’ll receive The Victor’s Cup, 1000 crowns, and 250 xp. If you lose a match at some point, then you’ll only receive 100 crowns and 50 xp, but Monnier will negotiate your silver sword back for you if you lost it, so the quest won’t cost you anything.

Note: If you win the tournament, then you’ll also receive the Wisdom virtue for the quest There Can Be Only One.
