This guide is a walkthrough of a side quest in the Witcher 3 on the Skellige Isles. The guide is composed of a map, map legend, and walkthrough to show readers exactly where to go and what to do to complete the quest.

Background

You’ll trigger this quest when you talk to the gate guards at the pirate town of Trottheim on Faroe in The Skellige Isles Southeast (#1), provided that you haven’t yet learned about Hammond during the quest Following the Thread. If you know about Hammond, then the pirates in the town will simply attack you, and you won’t be able to trigger the quest.

Walkthrough

The gate guards will mistake you for a courier sent to pick up some “goods.” You’ll have two ways to play the conversation:

  • If you keep telling the guards that they’re mistaken, then eventually they’ll believe you — and attack. You’ll then have to defeat all of the pirates in the town, including a slave driver. Afterwards, when you loot the bodies, you’ll find a Key to Pirate Leader’s House (which will unlock the house on the eastern side of the town) and Key to Slave Cells (which will unlock the cells on the western side of the town) on the slave driver’s corpse.

    When you free the slaves, they’ll thank you and head to Harviken (#3), and you’ll receive the diagram for Ban Ard Breastplate, a Lesser Dazhbog Runestone, and 50 xp. You’ll also probably find some nice loot in the leader’s house.
  • If you pretend to be the courier, then one of the gate guards will take you to the slave driver leader. He won’t be sure that you’re who you say you are, but as long as you keep playing along, he’ll believe you, and he’ll ask you for the payment for the slaves. You’ll have two choices for this — to pay 500 crowns, or to use Axii / Delusion to convince him that you’ve already paid. Either way, the slave driver will give you Key to Slave Cells.

    When you open the slave cells (found on the western side of the village), the slaves will begin following you. You’ll then need to lead them far enough away from the town to the southwest (#2), where you’ll let them go and they’ll head to Harviken (#3). For your reward, you’ll receive the diagram for Ban Ard Breastplate, a Lesser Dazhbog Runestone, and 50 xp.
