Best Weapon Upgrades – The Callisto Protocol

Resources are scarce on Callisto, and you’ll generally only be able to upgrade one or two weapons each time you find a Reforge station. There are a lot to choose from, and it can be tough deciding how to spend your hard-earned credits! In this guide, we’ll offer our take on the best weapon upgrades in The Callisto Protocol.

Stun Baton Upgrades

The Callisto Protocol is a very melee-focused game. Not only is ammo limited, but enemies often get up close and personal with Jacob, making the Stun Baton the safest and easiest way to fight back. Therefore, we recommend Stun Baton upgrades as one of your first choices any time you hit the Reforge station. It’s almost certainly going to be the weapon you use most often, and therefore you’ll get the most value out of upgrading it.

Upgrades should be prioritized in the following order:

  1. Block Upgrade 1 – Blocking Counterattack
  2. Block Upgrade 2 – Blocking Protection
  3. Velocity Upgrades 1 – Increased Velocity Alloy Sheath
  4. Velocity Upgrade 2 – Block Break
  5. Damage 1 – Riot Control Swing
  6. Damage 2 – Damage Upgrade Level 1

The second block upgrade means you take no damage while blocking — this is very useful when dodging is risky, like when fighting multiple foes. The Velocity 2 upgrade is prioritized next because it makes limb removal much faster, again helpful against multiple foes since it will limit their attacks.

The blocking upgrades are not recommended for the higher difficulties for the sole reason that blocking costs you health, and therefore it’s almost always better to dodge instead of block.

GRP Upgrades

GRP upgrades are recommended for the same reason as the Stun Baton upgrades: The GRP is an unlimited resource, since its batteries recharge over time. Additionally, the GRP allows you to one-shot enemies if the environment is suitable — and it often is. Increasing the GRP’s damage will additionally allow you to utilize it for defense even when the environment doesn’t have spikes or pits to toss your foes into.

Upgrades should be prioritized in the following order:

  1. Energy Upgrade 1
  2. Velocity Upgrade 1
  3. Velocity Upgrade 2
  4. Energy Upgrade 2
  5. Recharge Upgrade 1
  6. Recharge Upgrade 2

Since the GRP recharges by itself, and you can choose to simply wait while it does so, the recharge upgrades are the lowest priority — arguably, you could skip them entirely in favor of the other Tier 3 upgrades for the GRP.
