As you know, the Skyrim Fansite is always interested in showcasing artists and artistic works that celebrate Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls series. Whether it’s cosplayers, writers, musicians, or illustrators, we stand amazed at the level of artistic talent in the gaming community.

One such talented individual is John Gallagher, a brilliant artist who started working for BioWare back in 1996. John originally worked in video game development as a concept artist, and is now using his talents in the film industry. His impressive resume includes work in both television and movies. Some of his better known projects include  Defying Gravity, V, Once Upon A Time, Falling Skies, The A-Team (movie) and Apollo 18. As a film illustrator, John works closely with writers and directors, using his artwork to help visualize a scene and tell a story.

Epic Skyrim Art

John’s amazing work first came to my attention from a Skyrim Fansite reader who sent me a Pinterest link. When I first saw John’s Dragonborn I was blown away. For me, good art tells a story, and Dragonborn does just that — capturing a heroic scene of  Dovahkiin fighting for his very life in the maws of a slavering dragon. This is not a static picture by any means, for there is movement of purpose: a slashing sword stroke, blood splatter, burning flames. You can feel the dragon’s hot breath in your face, fetid with decay, and if you look at the illustration long enough you can hear the thunderous crescendo of the Skyrim soundtrack as the ferocious battle plays out before your very eyes. Yes, Dragonborn appeals to all your senses, immersing you into the action in a very intimate way.

John Gallagher’s Work

John maintains both the uncannyknack.com website and a gallery on deviantART where he features his brilliant work. His fantasy and science fiction subject matter appeals to my inner-geek, depicting pop culture, comic, and video game characters in a fresh, exciting way — I know the readers of the Skyrim Fansite will appreciate John’s art as much as I do.

When I reached out to John, he graciously gave me permission to use Dragonborn and other artwork in this article to illustrate the depth and beauty of his work, but I encourage you to visit John’s galleries to see even more stunning examples. John can be contacted here if you have any questions or would like to inquire about prints. He’ll also be a guest at the Emerald City Comic Con this March, so if you’re attending be sure to drop by and introduce yourself.
