Brawl Stars Mobile Battler Review

9/10

A freemium multiplayer arena fighter for mobile devices, Brawl Stars features 22 brawlers and 8 distinct game modes they'll be competing in. Together with the game's neat visuals and pleasant audio, this here is a great piece of interactive media for your phone or tablet.

After the release of Clash of Clans and Clash Royale, Supercell (A Finnish mobile game development company based in Helsinki and founded in May 2010) has taken a new approach to making mobile games that changes the genre. Let’s take a look at Brawl Stars.

Brawl Star is a freemium multiplayer mobile arena fighter / party brawler video game. The game initially released on 15 June 2017 on the Canadian iOS App Store, after the announcement from Supercell via livestream on YouTube, a day before.

This was an issue to all the other countries iOS users, and it made many of them switch their iOS accounts to the Canadian region just to play this game. Well, we, which includes myself as an Android user have waited forever for them to release it on multiple platforms and countries. Recently, on 12 December 2018, Supercell finally release it globally. (Yeah, finally!!!)

In Brawl Stars, players are ranked by their level and total trophies. There are 22 brawlers and 8 unique game modes in total currently. In the beginning, you are given a brawler, named Shelly.

The 22 brawlers are classified into 6 rarities and 7 types. The rarities are common, rare, super rare, epic, mythic, and legendary. The types of brawler are Fighter, Sharpshooter, Heavyweights, Thrower, Healer, Skirmisher and Assassin.

Your Brawlers are levelled up through gaining power points either from brawl boxes or by buying  them from the shop. Each Brawler has a level from 1 to 10 and a rank from 1 to 20 (Your rank is increased by gaining trophies). When a Brawler reaches level 9, you are able to unlock their Star Power (unique passive skill) from brawl boxes.

Shelly (Common Fighter)

El Primo (Rare Heavyweight)

Ricochet (Super Rare Sharpshooter)

Piper (Epic Sharpshooter)

Mortis (Mythic Assassin)

Spike (Legendary Sharpshooter)

Skins

Brawl Stars like many other games of this type, have created a load of different skins for the Brawlers. For example, Shelly’s 5 million pre-register before the game launch skin.

Game Modes and Maps

As I mentioned earlier, there are 8 game mode to play.  The non-ticket event modes (usual game mode) are Bounty, Brawl Ball, Gem Grab, Heist, Showdown and Duo Showdown. As for the tickets event modes, they are Robo Rumble and Big Game. The usual game modes are being unlocked as you reach the different milestones in our trophies. (Shown in the trophy road)

On the left, the green colour name indicates your avatar, the yellow skull icon on the bottom middle indicates that your ultimate is ready to go.

Game Mode: Bounty

Rules:

  • There are two teams and each consist of three players.
  • The objective of the game mode is to have the most stars at the end of the 2.30 minutes.
  • Every player starts with a 2-star bounty which is displayed above the Brawler’s head.
  • When a Brawler is killed, their bounty gets added to the score of the team of the Brawler that killed them and that Brawler’s bounty increases by 1 star (up to 7).
  • When a Brawler dies, their bounty is reset to 2.

Game mode: Heist

Rules:

  • Two teams each of which consists of 3 players. On both teams’ sides of the arena, there is a safe with high health.
  • The objective is to protect your safe while trying to destroy the opposing safe.
  • If one safe is taken out, the game automatically goes to the team that destroyed the safe.
  • If neither safe is destroyed, it will rely on the health of the safe. If one team’s safe has lower health than the other, the other team wins the game.
  • If both safes have the exact same amount of health before the timer runs out or when both safes are taken out at the exact same time, then it is a draw.

Shops

This is a place where you can buy brawl boxes, brawlers’ power points and more by using coins and gems. Sometimes, you will also receive some daily offer like a discount or value pack.

Music & Voice Acting

Brawl Stars is a game that hires a group of professional voice actors to make each unique character came alive in the game.

For example, Marissa Lenti who is the voice actor for Nita in game.

Music in the game has a pretty good synergic with game, when in the menu, and when in the different game mode.
