Winston Douglas Wood Interview, Part 3 – Matt Chat

Having covered the early installments of Winston Douglas Wood’s Phantasie series last week, the latest episode of Matt Barton’s Matt Chat show focuses more on Phantasie III and its unique mechanics. It also dedicates some time to Phantasie IV, a game that was released exclusively in Japan, as well as Star Command and its place among SSI’s sci-fi titles. So, in case you missed them, the first episode can be found here, the second one here, and the latest one you can watch below:

In this third segment, the great Winston Douglas Wood chats about the final Phantasie games. We chat about some of the more intriguing mechanics such as limb loss and parents for your characters. We also talk about the development of Phantasie IV in Japan and why it wasn’t released in the US. Finally, we chat about Star Command and its relationship (or lack thereof) to SSI’s other SF games such as Buck Rogers.
