Will the Nintendo 3DS Redeem Itself this Year?

When I first purchased a Nintendo 3DS, I was very excited. I was excited for the 3D screen and remakes such as Star Fox 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. My attention started to wane after I completed Star Fox 100% but then came Super Smash Bros for 3DS. But what happened to the great releases after that? Sure there were a few Fire Emblem games and a few other redux releases. But nothing caught my attention after that. Nintendo kept releasing newer versions of the 3DS but hardware is not what I needed. If there is a need for a new improvement, it’s great games that will prove that enhancements are necessary.

Nintendo is on the right track with the announcements from this year E3 and a laundry list of new releases for 3DS. This list has certainly caught my attention. With that being said I want to share what games I am looking forward to or interested in playing. For a full current list of 3Ds releases visit the Nintendo Official Website.

Hey! Pikmin (Release: July 28, 2017)

I am always fond of the little warriors, Pikmin and they remain loyal and work hard. I have not entirely played a Pikmin game, but for someone like me, this is a great starting point. Looking at the trailer seems very straightforward enough to understand the ultimate premise of this world. I find it interesting, to say the least.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux (Release: Early 2018)

Shin Megami Tensei has caught my attention. As a player, I always want to expand my arsenal of games. Strange Journey seems it will give me a fresh new story. Usually, games that have a Japanese origin tend to have intricate stories that catch my attention. I can’t say no to a great story.

Monster Hunter Stories (Release: Fall 2017)

Strangely enough, I have never played any of the Monster Hunter games. But, I will say that they have intrigued me. There is something about trying an RPG adventure and battling monsters that catch my eye.

Metroid: Samus Returns (Release: September 15th, 2017)

Now for one of my favorite character in gaming history, Samus Aran. Furthermore, I first introduced to this character through Metroid Prime. Prime continued to capture the feeling of isolation and adventure just like the earlier releases of Metroid and Metroid II. This is essentially a remake of the second installment. It’s similar to that of  Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. Enhancing environments and mechanics will be enough for me to get out my 3DS or even buy myself a new version of the DS. I can’t get enough Samus!

The 3DS still needs to prove to me that it can be a true handheld console. These games sound great, but that must be good to play as well. However, I still have hope that these games will make an impression on not only me but also to the mass consumer.
