Vampire: Bloodlines Reviews

Troika’s latest RPG installment is the subject of yet another trio of reviews around the web. The first is at Gameplay Monthly with an overall score of 8.6/10:

The game is an amazing testimony to the Vampire universe. It is a long game filled with great references for aficionados of horror flicks, B movies and Vampire lore. The richness of the game makes up for some disappointing minor bugs, and if you can overlook the few yet sometime obvious graphic flaws or bugs, you will encounter a real world, alive with its clans of vampires, their politics and factions. Every part of being a vampire is like a stylized little touch that makes you hate it and love it at the same time. But if you are ready to launch yourself in it, you’ll find a surprisingly solid 30+ hours of gameplay with an increasing difficulty that will keep you on your toes till the end.

The second is at Terra Arcanum with no overall score:

Despite my critiscisms of the game, buy it. While Bloodlines is not the greatest RPG evar, it certainly proves (especially after ToEE) that Troika are capable of providing an intense and interesting story, based on a licensed world. I’d certainly love to see an expansion pack that takes advantage of the skills available – perhaps a Vampire Hunter… It’s just a shame that Bloodlines is probably the best (or at least second best) story-driven shooter released in the passed 12 months, rather than being the new dawn of the RPG.

And the third is at Guru3D with no overall score:

After the various criticisms I have mentioned above, you could be forgiven for wondering what I make of this game. The truth is that despite some of these short comings I absolutely loved my time spent wandering the underbelly of LA. The in depth characters, varied quests, and political complexities of the plot are absorbing, and engaging. Couple this with the unending fun of being able to feast on an unlimited supply of human flesh, and the ability to gruesomely kill your enemy’s with a variety of powers, you can find yourself immersed in an alternate world.
