RuneScape creators, Jagex, unveil their first free role-playing game for iPhone and iPod Touch

CAMBRIDGE, UK 16th September 2010 Jagex Games Studio, creators of RuneScape, the world’s most popular free-to-play MMORPG, have today published Undercroft for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Undercroft is a free dungeon-themed role-playing game (RPG) with an extensive amount of gameplay. In Undercroft, players will command a party of heroes, mastering skills and spells to lead their group to victory and defeat their enemies.

(We are very excited to announce the launch of Undercroft for iPhone and iPod Touch,) said Jagex’s Chief Operations Officer, Rob Smith. (Undercroft is an extremely rich RPG with a very classic and casual style of game play. Players can enjoy well over 20 hours of gaming, taking control of a band of heroes who must battle through a fantasy world full of magic and monsters, completing many quests and side-quests. It will appeal to all fans of role-play adventure games and beyond. We’ve decided to launch the full game for free so everyone can enjoy this game as much as we do, every time we play it.)

Key game features include:
‘¢ An extensive mobile game with a classic, retro feel
‘¢ More than 20 hours of gameplay with excellent re-play potential
‘¢ Intricate plot, with dozens of quests and additional side-quests
‘¢ Turn-based combat system for strategic moves as well as fast attacks
‘¢ 5 hero classes Warrior, Mage, Priest, Summoner and Assassin
‘¢ Interact with more than 750 items
‘¢ Over 60 enemies to defeat

Undercroft is free to download and play, and is available today from the Apple App Store.

Kind of odd here is that we already saw an Undercroft released for iPhone/iPad a year ago. And given the fact that Rake in Grass’ game page points to the same official website, we can only assume that Jagex acquired the game from them.
