Thea 2: The Shattering Successfully Funded, Latest Updates

The Kickstarter campaign for MuHa Games’ Thea 2: The Shattering has ended, and according to the first post-funding update, it gathered a total of £53,078 (PayPal donations included). This means that neither of the stretch goals (£60k, £80k) were reached, but even so, the update promises that all the funds that go above the initial £40,000 goal will be put to good use and lead to “loads of extra features,” which is always good to hear.

A couple of interesting updates have gone up prior to the campaign’s conclusion. Update #10 reveals the goddess of the stars, Zorya, and update #12 showcases Thea 2’s day and night cycles. Here are the update videos:

And here are the relevant text bits from the abovementioned updates:

This week it is time to meet the ferocious, threefold goddess of the stars, Zorya!

Zorya returns as fierce and warrior-like as before. A favoured daughter of Svarog and mate to Horz, the sun, moon and stars thus form an alliance of light against darkness. Yet, Zorya’s nature remains that of turmoil and chaos. Representing the three auroras, the goddess is never still, never settled and never satisfied in her thirst for battle. As such, she is known to orcs as Zorza and revered as their supreme goddess.

As with Thea 1, the time of day can have a great impact on your gameplay – creatures of the night tend to become more aggressive, line of sight decreases, or on the flip side, some deities can give you bonuses because it is within their domain. Conflict between light and darkness will feature prominently in Thea 2, so the days may now prove equally tricky!

Fog of War

The fog of war in Thea 2 will take into account several factors when calculating visibility:

  • terrain type (if you’re standing on a hill/mountain your visibility will increase, but forests and hills will obscure your line of sight)
  • weather conditions and time of day
  • as with Thea 1, you will see the shape of the terrain before you, but not its precise type or resources it may hide
  • previously discovered terrain will be veiled with thinner fog, that will obscure enemies when out of your eyesight range

Your line of sight may also be influenced by such things as: <>ul

  • enchantments, curses or talents
  • character type or class
  • item bonuses

And finally, a thank-you note from the developers:

Thea 2: [The Shattering] is officially funded and its all thanks to you lovely people!

Together with our Pay Pal donations, we’ve gathered £53,078, so you can be sure we’ll be putting in loads of extra features for the sequel.

Within the next few weeks, we’ll get our act together and start organising your pledges and drawing up plans and of course we’ll keep you updated at all times.

For those of you who pledged enough to get Thea: The Awakening, we’ll do our best to start sending out the keys asap (we will send a message to ask what platform you prefer first)

But for now, it’s time to raise our glasses and cheer, we did it!

Huge thank you and we love you!
