The Witcher 2 Sells Nearly One Million Copies

CD Projekt RED has been pretty tight-lipped about the sales figures they’ve been enjoying since the release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, but now the Warsaw Business Journal brings word that the company showed “a net profit of zÅ‚.20.4 million and generated zÅ‚.80.3 million in the first half of 2011”, thanks in part to the sale of 940,000 copies of the RPG sequel.

Of the group’s many areas of operation, the gaming division provided the largest contribution to the result. In particular, The Witcher 2 game, released on May 17, proved a great success, with sales of 940,000 copies, out of which 200,000 were downloaded online by gamers.

The result was what the company had expected, Piotr Nielubowicz, CD Projekt Red board member, told Parkiet.

He also announced that the company wishes to diversify its source of income by widening its selection of movie publications. Currently, it distributes Disney movies in the Polish market and will start publishing Polsat movies and series starting in September. Also coming up are games by global leader Activision Blizzard which CD Projekt Red will distribute exclusively in Poland.

Any guesses for how big the sales number will grow once a more polished version of the game is available on the Xbox 360?
