The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Reviews

The weekend starts off with four enthusiastic reviews for Bethesda Softworks’ The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The first is at 1Up with an overall score of 9.1/10:

This is a seriously questcentric game, yet you won’t find a more open game world anywhere (sorry, GTA). Oblivion consistently rewards exploration, whether you’re traversing the sprawling continent, mixing up new potions or creating your own custom spells, trying different solutions to quests, or experimenting with different play styles. Frankly, I’m amazed developer Bethesda got all this content–and such sweet graphics-packed onto that one disc. This may be the best game I play this year.

The second is at Lawrence with an overall score of 94%:

Other than those minor quibbles, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the defining RPG for the Xbox 360. If you have a 360 and even a remote interest in RPGs, you simply must play Oblivion. Between the engaging combat and the sheer size and scope of the game, players will be ensnared by its charm and beauty for weeks, if not months. Oblivion is one of the best RPGs to come out in years on any system, and one that will definitely have gamers enthralled for quite a while.

The third is at GameBrink with an overall score of 90%:

Next generation graphics, huge improvements on all fronts from its predecessors, a 40 hour main storyline, and 100s of hours of side quests make this an RPG gamer’s dream come true. Add on top the fact that the 360 is the best platform to play it on seeing as you’ll have to pay at least as much as a 360 costs to upgrade your computer to play it and you’ve got a solid system seller for little Willy Gates.

And the fourth is at JIVE Magazine with a perfect score of 5/5:

Ultimately, Oblivion is very enjoyable on either Xbox 360 or on PC. The Xbox 360 has some unlockable content available to gamers who must do absolutely every quest available, while the PC version has a downloadable content creator which will extend the replayability. The most impressive thing about Oblivion is how it appeals to every aspect of the RPG genre with a quality that no other RPG has ever done. Whether you’re looking for fast paced combat, an in depth story line, colorful dialog, a completely open-ended questing system, or simply beautiful jaw dropping graphics you will find something you absolutely love to do in Oblivion.
