The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Interview

Gamesplanet has conducted an interview with Bethesda’s Pete Hines, in which the public relations representative talks about some of the new features they are implementing into The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Here’s a bit to start you off:

Not only the expansion sets, but also the many mods really extended the lifespan of Morrowind. Will there be a construction set like the one in Morrowind and do you expect the same expanded fanbase and number of mods?
Yes, (The Elder Scrolls Construction Set) will ship with the PC version. In many respects, it’s similar to the version for Morrowind. We were very happy with the general flow of it. We’ve changed and added some major items in it. The big addition has been the region generation part that allows you to define parameters for an area – like soil type, erosion, plant species, creatures, you name it and it generates it for you. Very fun stuff to play with. We’ve also changed major parts of the object and scripting systems, how worlds are organized, and the quest system.

Yes, we expect that the fanbase will continue to grow. Will there be more mods? I don’t know, and it doesn’t really matter. I think what’s the most exciting is that we have a lot of talented fans who have been working with this system for several years now, so giving them a newer, better version of the TES CS is going to make for even better mods and plugins than we saw for Morrowind.
