Starfinder Pen and Paper RPG Announced, Preorders Open

Pen and paper roleplaying games definitely experience a resurgence at the moment. With the proliferation of resources like Roll20, playing tabletop games with online friends is as easy as it’s ever been. Paizo’s Pathfinder is frequently the top choice for such campaigns. Expanding their brand, Paizo has now announced Starfinder, a science fantasy RPG set in the Pathfinder world. Preorders for the rulebook, pre-made adventures, and various paraphernalia are now open, with the full release expected somewhere in August 2017.

Here’s a bit about the project and the rulebook contents:

Take your favorite fantasy RPG to the stars! Set thousands of years in Pathfinder’s future, Starfinder is a stand-alone roleplaying game evolved from the Pathfinder rules and designed to bring you a whole new universe of science fantasy adventures. Play alien races both new and familiar as you explore the mysteries of a weird galaxy. Will you be an android assassin fulfilling corporate contracts, or a plucky ratfolk mechanic? A spellhacking lashunta technomancer, or a rakish human pilot? Uncountable worlds are waiting for you and your intrepid crew!

The Starfinder line will include both a hardcover core rulebook and key hardcover rules supplements, as well as a Starfinder Adventure Path that provides you with epic campaigns, expanded rules elements, and new monsters to battle. Best of all, Starfinder is designed to integrate easily with the Pathfinder roleplaying game, meaning your power-armored marine can still go toe to toe with orcs and dragons. So what are you waiting for? The galaxy needs you!

The Starfinder Core Rulebook includes:

  • Complete rules for players and GMs for science-fantasy races like logical androids, telepathic lashunta, ysoki ratfolk, and more—plus all of the classic fantasy races of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game!
  • 7 new science-fantasy classes, from the spellhacking technomancer to the starship mechanic with a remote-controlled robot. Will you be a heavily armored soldier, a charismatic envoy, a stealthy operative, an occult mystic, or the cosmically attuned solarian, who calls forth strange powers and shapes energy weapons from stars and black holes?
  • A detailed overview of Starfinder’s core setting, including the planets of the Pact Worlds, their gods, major factions and threats, and more.
  • Complete rules for starship combat, as well as for building and customizing starships.
  • Hundreds of science-fantasy weapons, armors, and items, both magical and technological, from plasma cannons and holy power armor to enchanted swords and cybernetic implants.
  • Hundreds of spells to let mystic or technomancer characters tap into esoteric energies and rewrite the laws of physics.
  • Rules for alien environments, deadly traps, bizarre diseases and poisons, and everything else needed to craft exciting adventures.
  • Advice on converting Pathfinder RPG content to Starfinder, and vice-versa.
