Star Wars KOTOR: Aperion Remaster

Yes, that’s right. The Knights of the Old Republic is being remade. Well, actually, it’s more of a re-imagining of the original. It will be called Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Aperion; mostly because it is not being made by the original developers. This remaster and remake has been taken on by Poem Studios and they are keen to make this dream into a reality.

Essentially, they are making a new game. Although it will resemble what we know of the original, the developers want to make it their own. So far, they have promised new missions, characters, items, worlds and even a new HUD. It is an exciting prospect. For saying we haven’t had a modern Star Wars single player game, it is going to be interesting to see how well they can pull this off.

This Is The Star Wars Game You’re Looking For…

Unfortunately, this project is in its very early stages. So, there isn’t a whole lot to go off at the moment. They do have a website and you can follow them on social media too. They are even taking on volunteer artists if you would like to contribute something. But, you may be wondering how they are able to pull off this feat without getting into any legal trouble. Well, here’s the long and short of it: you will still need to own a copy of the original game. Because they are using some of the audio and all of the soundtrack, you will need to own the game first. Which means they can do whatever they like because it will essentially be one giant mod. This has been done with other games too, like Black Mesa, which was, for the most part, well received.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

They aren’t making any promises though. Poem Studios aren’t even accepting donations right now because they don’t want to give people false hope. This doesn’t mean it won’t get finished and they assure us they will do what it takes to get it done. But, it is understandable. A lot of crowd funded games make a lot of promises before falling down flat. They just want a more finished product before people start throwing money at them. Did I also mention this game will be free?

Check out their twitter for screenshots of the development. You can also follow them on twitch to watch them live stream the game development. There is also their website where you can sign up to stay up to date with all the latest development news.

I've always had a passion for games and, since I found my passion for writing, I wanted to write about them. I'll play just about anything if I can get my hands on it. I have an unhealthy obsession with all things Star Wars and my motto is "Never apologise for being a nerd."
