Shadowbane Relaunch Possibly in the Works

Developed by Wolfpack Studios and published by Ubisoft back in 2003, Shadowbane was a full PVP MMORPG set in a dynamic world. The game was shut down in 2009, with all related IP subsequently purchased by ChagYou.

And if you consider yourself among those with fond memories of Shadowbane, you should check out this blog post by Sean Dahlberg, who used to work for Wolfpack Studios as their Internet Relations Manager, where he points us to a Chinese website with a countdown timer and numerous Shadowbane assets.

Here’s what he has to say:

I was perusing my Facebook groups today and I’m still a member of the old Shadowbane players group. And what do I see? A post about Shadowbane launching. No, not an emulator server. The actual product.

And, sure enough, if you go to www.shadowbane.com, you see there is a new website. With a countdown timer. And the site does look to be owned by ChangYou which did announce they had acquired the rights back in 2012 as well as the source code.

The teaser video doesn’t show much. But it looks like they put up a test server early in April and you can now register for the closed beta which looks to start in late May.

The few snippets they do show, that does look to be the assets we had back in the day. My assumption is they may have streamlined some things and updated the backend (one can hope!), but the frontend looks to be the exact same graphics as before. Unless they are just using old materials and waiting to unveil the new assets with the beta.
