Scribblenauts Showdown announced for Switch, PS4, XBO

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced today that the Scribblenauts series is making a return with Scribblenauts Showdown, a new game releasing on March 9th for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

According to the press release, the game features three modes, with a big focus on “social elements”. Showdown mode pits up to four players against one another on a board game map, with 25 mini-games and multiple ways to progress toward victory. Versus is a two-player competitive mode that randomises the mini-games. Finally, sandbox mode is more akin to the classic Scribblenauts gameplay, allowing one or two players to solve puzzles acros eight levels. The game also features a character creator, with customisation items unlocking as you play through the game.

Steven Chiang, Executive Vice President of Production at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment promises “players of all skill levels will enjoy testing their creativity in the fast-paced, head-to-head party style gameplay.”

Showdown is the first Scribblenauts game since 2013’s Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure. It is also the first to be developed by Shiver Entertainment, after original developer 5th Cell suffered heavy layoffs and went dark in 2016. Shiver is a relatively young developer that has previously worked on Beasts vs. Bots for mobile platforms.
