Rumored Harry Potter RPG Could Be Released By 2021

For several years now, the rumors of an open world RPG set in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World have permeated the gaming community.  It seems now though, even without an official announcement, that the rumors are at least somewhat true.  According to Bloomberg, the game is not only in development, but will likely have a 2020 release date.

Two Avalanche Software developers leaked the information to Bloomberg, confirming at the same time that they were indeed the studio developing the game.  The studio is perhaps best known for their work, on Disney Infinity (now defunct), which, based on the breadth of that series, indicates big things for a Harry Potter inspired RPG.

It was stated that the game would be available on both the PS5 and the X Box Series X and would likely be an exclusively Next Gen console title.  It will also feature an entirely new story that is outside the books and movies, with an open world Hogwarts set in the 19th century.  The player will take on the role of a 5th year student who comes to the school as a late arrival.  They will also be able to choose to become one of 8 different witch or wizard types!

Players will be able to make new friends, and enemies and choose the path of good, evil, or Ravenclaw.  There will be access to a new and unique form of magic to master, with limitless possibilities.  You’ll be given the chance to uncover new secrets from the past as your freely explore the Wizarding World for the first time ever.

Harry Potter Rpg Rumors Hogwarts

This is all very exciting, but fans of the HP series, and J.K. Rowling in general, might wonder whether the creator of the Wizarding World will have any involvement in the game’s development.  The two developers who leaked these details expressed concern over Ms. Rowling’s involvement with the game.  The recent controversy surrounding her transphobic comments and her repeated dismissal of trans people caused quite an up stir. The developers in question stated to Bloomberg that Avalanche’s silence over this backlash made for an uncomfortable working atmosphere while the game was in development.

There was also some leaked footage of aspects of the game.  Check it out below.

There have also been coronavirus-induced delays, including E3 2020 being and Warner Bros. plans to announce the game being shifted. Bloomberg stated in a report that the Harry Potter RPG game will be announced at a later date.

Neither Avalanche, nor Warner Bros. have officially confirmed that they are, in fact, in development of a Harry Potter RPG.
