PopCap Games Has Tried RPG Projects

The ruler of all things desktop casual, PopCap Games, has tried applying its casual model to the RPG genre, but so far with no success, co-founder Jason Kapalka tells Digital Spy.

“We’ve tried to do PopCap versions of role-playing games several times,” he said. “In the same way they’re taking standard RPG stuff and finding a way to make it more approachable, in the same way that this is sort of a light tower defence. We failed, so far.

“We’ve tried a couple of different versions. We’ve tried a Diablo-style RPG, we’ve tried more of a turn-based JRPG sort of thing. Unfortunately as I just mentioned, none of them have worked out yet.”

I love PopCap games but I’m not sure if the RPG genre is in dire need of a casual push.
