Overlord Interview

The folks at Game Almighty have conducted an interview with Codemasters’ Kevin Mullard and Triumph Studios’ Lennart Sas about their upcoming RPG/strategy hybrid, Overlord.

Q: It’s my understanding that the player will be presented with moral choices throughout the game, but those choices range from being evil to being really, really evil. How do these choices influence the game?

A: In this game you get to be an Evil Overlord, period. So, we track the player’s corruption. Starting at 0% your corruption is upped when doing evil acts like looting a village, betraying your mistress (for her sister), or killing peasants for their lifeforce so you can spawn yet more minions.

Your corruption level affects many things, the look of your character, the reaction of the peasants, the look of your tower, what sort of magic you end up with and the story ending.

With the saying, (Power Corrupts, Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely,) many will find playing the game (really evil) is easier, but how far you go is up to you. There’s a different ending & achievement if you can finish the game still with a pristine 0% corruption.
