Official Terminology

Sanya replied to a post on the Camelot Vault boards responding to a question about the words she and Mythic use to describe servers/guilds/etc. Here is the post:

They told me to say “shard” – I occasionally screw up and say server. I don’t think it really matters, people usually say the name of their whatever the hell: “I play on Grimfodreck, where are you from?”

No, we do not have a server called Grimfodreck.

Originally, the place-where-you-select-your-career was called a guild, and player groups were called associations. But it turned out that only in Albion is that place called a guild, the other realms have houses and paths. Besides, everyone is used to calling their groups “guilds,” changing that would be like swimming upstream. I wanted to call them clans, but people kinda wrinkled their noses and said it sounded too Scottish.

So officially it’s “shards” and “guilds.” Sorry for the confusion, it’s my lack of consistency causing that.

Thanks Sanya! That certainly helped me out a bit!
