NWN Adventure Creation Guide #3

In more Neverwinter news, GameSpy has posted up their third Neverwinter Nights Adventure Creation Guide. Here’s a snippet:

Adventure areas should be exciting, filled with challenges and the opportunity to explore, and they should have a definite direction in which you want the action of your story to flow. That action might have multiple paths or it might have lots of twists and turns along the way but, for the most part, you’ll typically require two fundamental locations: a starting point and an ending point. Of course, there should be some space in-between these two points, space filled with the various elements that make for an entertaining tale — we’ll discuss this topic in a later conversation. But it is important to note that your adventurers should rarely, if ever, have to backtrack through spaces they have already explored. Unless the previously explored territory has somehow been made new and exciting, such backtracking tends to make your adventure seem stale and monotonous. For this same reason, I would urge you to use mazes sparingly.
