New World: Forged in Aeternum – Sound Design

Good sound design can be a bit of an underappreciated art when it comes to video games. And so, in order to highlight the importance of audio in setting the right mood and evoking emotions, the latest Forged in Aeternum episode has New World’s audio director and a couple of sound designers tell us a thing or two about their craft.

Greetings, Adventurers!

The New World soundtrack does more than just immerse us in quests. Themes can bring back specific memories — a tense boss fight, a comical event, or maybe even a bizarre moment. Aeternum is filled with unique sounds that evoke different emotions depending on your experiences. Winter Villages might make you feel warm and whimsical, while Summer Villages often elicit an irresistible desire to tap. Those tangible feelings are a result of the Audio Team’s constant experimentation.
