Five New Overwatch Brawl Ideas

The new Overwatch brawls are, in my opinion the most fun that I have in Overwatch. I’ve already written a post on why I prefer the Mystery Heroes brawl, but it got me thinking about other possible ideas for brawl types. There’s already quite a few out there, such as using Support only, or only being able to select McCree etc. Though, I’ve thought of five more Overwatch brawl ideas that I think would be pretty fun.

Weapon Switch

In this Overwatch brawl, much like Mystery Heroes upon your hero’s death you are given a random weapon and the skills associated with it instead of your own. By that I mean, If you were Winston and were randomly given Junkrat’s Frag Launcher. You would lose your Tesla Cannon, keep your shields, leap and rage and gain Junkrat’s grenades (but not his Concussion Mines or Rip Type)

A Soldier: 76 that gets his weapon swapped with Mercy, would lose both standard fire and grenades, but keep his run and Biotic Heal, while gaining Mercy’s Heal and Power boost, but not her resurrection Ultimate ability.

This would really mix things up. Downside, it would be a bit confusing understanding which skills you’ve gained and lost. We can’t have the players constantly in their hero info page.

Side Switch

Another switching type of brawl, this time, when a player kills another hero, they trade places with them. The recently deceased player and the player that killed him are now on opposite sides. This would be chaotic as killing someone in a group would spell your timely demise. But then you and that hero would swap too. You’d have to go from defense to attack at relatively short notice.

Blow the Bomb

In this mode, all players start with a bomb inside of them. One player randomly chosen on each team is chosen to hold the trigger. If the opposing team kills the person with the trigger then the bombs go off and the entire team is wiped out (or at least suffers heavy damage) For added challenge the trigger swaps to another random team-member after a minute or so, so you can’t just hide one player out of reach all the time.

Power Up – Power Down

In this brawl, the power of each hero can go up or down depending on whether they have just killed or been killed. If a hero kills someone their damage and health drop by a certain percentage, if you’ve just been killed then the reverse happens. A team that does really well and kills everyone quickly may find themselves up against serious opposition. Of course this power up – power down would only happen on player related deaths, so no jumping off ledges to get a power boost.

Brawl Mix-Up

My last idea is basically just a mixture of two or more brawl rules. This would be chaos squared, especially if one or more of the above brawls are included. What about a 3v3 Mystery Heroes Match, or a 1v1 where you have to play support. Maybe a Blow the Bomb where you don’t know which weapon / hero combination you’ll get next.

Overwatch is all about having fun, and these Arcade modes would add even more. Of course this is just my opinion, and I admit I love the element of chaos and random when I play, for those liking things a little more stable these ideas may not be for you.

So, what does everyone think of my New Overwatch Brawl Type Ideas? Are they great ideas or truly sucky ones? Let us know in the comments.
