The official Morrowind website has been updated with an announcement that it will not be released this year, but instead in the spring of 2002:


    BETHESDA SOFTWORKS SET TO SHIP THE ELDER SCROLLS III: MORROWIND IN SPRING 2002

    October 12, 2001 — Rockville, MD — Bethesda Softworks, a ZeniMax Media company, announced today that the highly anticipated role-playing game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowindâ„¢ will be released in Spring 2002. Custom designed for both PC CD-ROM and the Xboxâ„¢ video game system from Microsoft, the title offers unequaled graphics, hours of engrossing gameplay, an epic tale of adventure and intrigue, as well as a unique game editor that allows PC players to customize and share the title’s immersive experience with others.

    Morrowind is the sequel to Bethesda’s award-winning titles Arena and Daggerfall, regarded as two of the most intricate and compelling role-playing games ever released. The company has captured the best of previous Elder Scrolls games in creating Morrowind, combining the elements that have made the series a classic among core gamers with the latest in 3D graphics and AI technology.

Along with this announcement, they’ve also posted a video narrated by Todd Howard that gives a glimpse at some of the technology used in Morrowind and a Dreugh wallpaper.
