Icewind Dale II Designer Diary #3

Dave Maldonado, designer on the upcoming Icewind Dale II, stopped by RPGVault to post up another designer diary letting everyone know how the game is progressing and what changes have been made, such as this one:

You know all those kits we were doing? Well…

…THEY’RE GONE! Yes, we’ve replaced the kits (and proficiencies) with feats and true, bonafide, honest-to-goodness Third Edition D&D multi-classing. Wooo! Stacking of Hit Points, Attack Bonuses, Save Bonuses, and so on? Yep. Favored classes by race? Yep. Ability score increases every four levels? Yep. Skills and feats? Oh-ho-HOOO yes, my friends – and an extra feat for humans at first level! This means that players should be able to make just about any sort of character they want… and while some may rail against such as the Worst Thing Ever (“Hey, look, here comes the Dual-Wielding Drow Fighter/Ranger parade! There’s hundreds of ’em!”), we think it’s pretty damned cool to let players do what they like so long as it doesn’t ruin anyone else’s fun.
