Hellgate: London Developer Diary #1

German gaming site Krawall.de has tossed up the first in a series of Hellgate: London developer diaries with Flagship Studios’ Bill Roper. They also have a German version.

I think that it says a lot that the foundation of Hellgate: London has remained intact from day one. We’ve built solidly upon that initial idea, fleshing out the design and then adding and iterating as we created the game. Our development process is best described as organic since we are constantly evaluating and changing the game (whether slightly or extremely) every single day. Obviously, we locked down the content and design at some point, but we definitely didn’t write up a design document on day one and then make the game according to what’s there for the next 3 – 4 years. We’ve found that constantly playing the game and leaving ourselves as much flexibility as possible to incorporate feedback and new ideas that come from playing gives us the best possible end result.
