Hand of Fate to Launch in January 2015

Hand of fate logo titleGames that combine elements of table-top and card-based rpgs seem to be having somewhat of a revival of late, with Dicetiny working its way through the kickstarter process, and Hand of Fate from Defiant development following not too far behind that.

Hand of Fate combines RPG, rogue-like and action-adventure elements with tabletop board and card game features, and will launch on Xbox One in January 2015 in addition to the previously announced PC and PlayStation 4 releases.

Though for everyone who downloads the game on Steam there’s something else that will be winging its way to them, in a virtual-not-at-all-actually-winging it kind of way. Players who download on Steam Early Access will get the chance to play new content created by David Goldfarb, known for his work on Battlefield and Payday, before the game’s official launch.   Goldfarb’s work includes a hidden optional quest featuring original encounters, locations and items.

Even though the teaser trailer doesn’t give much away, you can still get a good idea of the game from these screenshots, and from the official site (here)

PC Gamers Can Soon Play David Goldfarb’s Side Mission, Coming to Steam Early Access

Gamers who download Hand of Fate on Steam Early Access will be able to play new content created by industry luminary David Goldfarb, of Battlefield and Payday fame, prior to the game’s official launch.  Goldfarb has designed original encounters, locations, items and a story which flesh out a hidden optional quest in Hand of Fate.

David Goldfarb’s side mission begins when players discover the corpse of a hunter — missing its shadow.  As the level progresses, more bodies without shadows pile up.  Players make their way to the Gorge of Beasts, where the bones of a great creature envelope the surrounding land in darkness.  From the gloom emerges a mythical monstrosity terrorizing the land, a creature that must be defeated.

“The feedback we have received from gamers playing on Steam Early Access has surpassed our wildest dreams,” said Morgan Jaffit, director, Defiant Development.  “We are working furiously to deliver the finished game for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC owners.”

The Early Access build of Hand of Fate is now available for PC, Mac and Linux on Steam at a discounted price of $25 USD.
