Hades Revealed – Supergiant Games’ Roguelite Dungeon Crawler Now in Early Access

Supergiant Games, the developers of Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre, revealed their new game during this year’s The Game Awards show. That game is Hades, a Greek mythology-inspired roguelite dungeon crawler where you’re tasked with escaping the underworld and using however many lives to do that as necessary. Before going any further, here’s the official trailer:

As the trailer suggests, the game is already available in Early Access. The main caveat there is that you’ll have to go through the new Epic Games store to get in on the action. The official FAQ, however, tells us that the game will be coming to a “variety of platforms” when it’s ready.

And if you’d like to see some actual gameplay, IGN offers 15 minutes of it. From the looks of it, Hades will feel like an amalgamation of Supergiant’s earlier titles and on the combat side of things will feature fast-paced action, melee and ranged combat, randomized character-upgrading boons, and partially destructible environments. Have a look:

Some additional details:

Hades is a rogue-like dungeon crawler where you defy the god of death as you hack and slash your way out of the Underworld of Greek myth. It’s never the same experience twice: Each time you play, you’ll combine the divine might of various Olympian gods with your own, brave nefarious new challenges, and unravel more of the story featuring our award-winning art, audio, and narrative.

Hades is a living game in active development: Expect regular updates introducing new features, events, characters, weapons, powers, environments, and more. We think developing Hades in Early Access is key to making it the best game it can be, which is our goal.

We’re sure you have a lot of questions, and we have lots more to say about the game — so head on over to our Hades FAQ to learn more. Or just dive right into the game, and experience the latest and greatest from our team!!
