Gwent: The Witcher Card Game – Homecoming Reveal

A few months ago we heard about the massive “Homecoming” update for CD Projekt’s Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. The update was supposed to revamp the card game’s mechanics and make it more Witcher-like. And now we can see the updated game in action and listen to a couple of developers talk about the upcoming additions and changes:

On top of that, if you check out this Eurogamer article, you’ll learn that the planned single-player Thronebreaker campaign for Gwent now has a much greater scope than initially intended, and on release it will offer roughly 30 hours of choice and consequence-driven gameplay where fights are represented by Gwent battles. A bit on that:

Four months later, and CD Projekt has finally – as part of its sexily titled H1 2018 financial results conference – offered more news about Gwent’s single-player campaign, and big changes are afoot. Most notably, Thronebreaker – which is now titled Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales – has seemingly blossomed into a full-scale RPG, with a campaign of around 30 hours, full of choices and consequences, albeit one where actions are still decided by the outcome of Gwent games.

As a result of its massively increased scope, Thronebreaker: The Witchers Tales will now be offered as a standalone title, and won’t require the Gwent collectible card game client to play.
