Developed by Counterplay Games, Godfall was originally revealed as a PlayStation 5 launch title. And following the console’s release, you can now purchase Godfall there, or pick it up on the Epic Games Store for PC. The game itself is described as a looter-slasher, melee action-RPG with plenty of skills, loot, and online co-op functionality.

Here’s the launch trailer:

GamesRadar+ 3.5/5:

Godfall is definitely a bit of an odd one. There’s great combat but its focus on rerunning encounters to grind for progress might not sit well with everyone – using repetition to extract as much value as it can from every square foot of its level. However, when taking down a group of enemies in a flurry of blows, or perfectly dismantling a giant boss’s attack pattern, it nails that unthinking reactive, totally in the zone moment and can feel amazing.

Shacknews 7/10:

Despite early concerns about how generic it might be, I had really hoped that Godfall would turn out to be a great game to help usher in the next generation of gaming. Unfortunately, what might have looked like a fine jewel in the glint from your flashlight is really just a shiny piece of glass that leaves a lot to be desired. If you want a fairly mindless RPG experience that offers some different weapons and gear to mess around with, then Godfall will give you at least a few hours of fun. Just don’t expect a fantasy story worthy of its inspirations, or a world that fully explores its potential and you’ll be fine.

ScreenRant 3/5:

Godfall is an ambitious action RPG with gorgeous graphics and great combat mechanics that jump off the screen. Unfortunately, its repetitive locations and missions, lack of strong narrative, and uncompelling characters may fail to impress players and those factors prevent Godfall from living up to its potential.

Trusted Reviews 3.5/5:

Despite its epic aspirations, the protagonist and villain’s relationship lacks depth and throughout the entire game I never felt any sense of urgency or compulsion to dig deeper into the world’s lore as a result. This is potentially the biggest reason I can’t see any player hanging around for the endgame party after the main story has run its course. The repetition isn’t aided by the level design, which games editor Jade King rightfully described as “so generic it’s the sort of thing TV shows use to show someone playing a video game”.

GodisaGeek 8.5/10:

Godfall is a massive surprise. It borrows combat from God of War and has enough loot to make Diablo blush. It may look garish but it’s well designed and has that “one more go” factor.

PC Invasion 7.5/10:

It’s derivative, only has three zones, and doesn’t have much to offer besides its combat, but Godfall will be enjoyable to anyone who just wants a well-tuned, good-looking action RPG to slash their way through.
