FATE: Undiscovered Realms Revealed

After several retailers added listings for FATE: Undiscovered Realms, WildTangent’s Nick C. seemingly had no choice but to make an official announcement about the standalone expansion pack.

FATE: Undiscovered Realms is a brand new, stand-alone expansion to our favorite RPG, FATE! There’s so much new and exciting stuff in this game, I don’t really know where to start.

First some basics. FATE: UR uses the same engine as the original FATE, so it has the same look and feel you’ve all come to know and love, but with TONS and TONS of new stuff! Like FATE, Undiscovered Realms is a single-player game that puts you in the shoes of a hero (in fact, you can import characters from the original FATE, if you’d rather not start from scratch).

The story starts you in the Temple of Fate, which has been cut off from Grove by an evil sorcerer who tricked you into stealing the all-powerful Book of Fate from the depths of the dungeon in Grove. The Temple of Fate is connected to two previously undiscovered realms – the forest realm of Druantia, and the ice realm of Typhon. There is also a portal to the dungeon of Kaos, which was created by the evil sorcerer with the power of the Book of Fate. However, because of your actions, the portal has been sealed, and the realms of Typhon and Druantia have been beset by evil forces. It will be up to you to rescue these realms, break into the dungeon of Kaos, and track down the stolen Book of Fate.

Another big feature is the addition of Hardcore mode. This difficulty is completely separate from the normal difficulties you’re used to, and the monsters are even more difficult than on Legendary. On top of this, you are only given ONE life, and cheating and modding will not be possible. Once you die, instead of the 3 options you’re used to, you will simply have the option to post your score online, or quietly accept your Fate. If you choose the latter option, your character will disappear forever. If you choose the first option, you will still be able to play this character after posting your score, but your score will no longer increase, and for all intents and purposes, the game will be just like the regular Adventure mode (except harder).

In addition to the Hardcore mode, the level cap has been raised to 199, giving you a chance to become more powerful than ever before (you’re going to need all the power you can muster to take on Kaos). There are lots and lots of other new things, but that at least gives you an idea of what we’ve all been working so hard on. In terms of a release date, I’m going to stick with “coming soon” for now, although you can definitely expect a July (or at the latest August) release. The game will first be available online at www.wildgames.com, and will be on store shelves shortly after. We’ll be announcing the release via our newsletter, so if you want to be sure to hear about it as soon as it happens, I’d recommend signing up at http://www.wilgames.com/newsletter.

Good news.
