Far Cry 6 Opening Credits Released!

Far Cry 6’s reveal trailer wasn’t the only trailer that came out of the game’s announcement today. They also released the game’s opening credits, and there is a lot to unpack there!

The sequence begins by zooming into the eye of a crocodile – a primordial lizard – as it watches a Spanish ship approach Yara’s shore. We are then treated to a historical montage showing conquistadors, slavery, and slave revolts that transition into Yara’s current political turmoil. This is all followed by a long series of images that juxtapose the high life of Yara’s rulers with the low life of the heroes fighting to overthrow them.

The opening credits are cinematic but dated – almost like something from another era. In a comment, YouTube user ENinja35 Gamer remarked that it “Looks like the start of a James Bond movie.” That was my first thought as well, but it is far more reminiscent of HBO’s Westworld or, especially, Netflix’s Daredevil than anything one would see in a movie today.

Just like with the openings of those shows the average Far Cry 6 player will likely see this opening sequence once and skip it on subsequent playthroughs. Nevertheless, it is impressive for what it is, and has gotten fans hyped for the game’s upcoming February release. We can only hope that the game will be as amazing as its story undoubtedly will be.
