RPG Vault had the opportunity to fire over a set of questions to Dungeons & Dragons Tactics lead designer Lee Brimmicombe-Wood.

Q: What would you care to say about your implementation of combat in D&D: Tactics? Is there much of other gameplay types like stealth of puzzle-solving?

A: Combat is key to the game and is the core of the gameplay. Though there is some stealth and puzzle-solving, most of the time you will be exploring and fighting.

The player can control up to six characters at a time – and occasionally more, if they have animal companions or magically summon some creatures to help. Basically, the game runs on the D&D tabletop rules, so that characters get two actions a turn – one move and one ‘standard action’, usually used for combat. Sometimes, they can be combined into a full-round action to perform some special attacks. These are often a product of the character’s class or feats, and may permit them to attack multiple times in a turn or do a special killing move.
