Dungeon Explorer: Warriors of Ancient Arts Interview

RPG Vault had the opportunity to quiz Hudson Interactive’s Takahide Otoizumi and John Lee about both handheld versions of their upcoming action RPG, Dungeon Explorer: Warriors of Ancient Arts.

Q: Since it’s clearly a vital element in the design of any RPG, how will the games’ character development system work?

A: What makes the new versions of Dungeon Explorer unique is that we have a new skill system called arts. They differ depending on the profession and weapons a player possesses.

The system goes beyond battle skills. You can learn support functions like the ability to locate treasure. Certain skills can also be leveled up. Learning about how the system works is a major part of the storyline for both games, so we won’t reveal too much at this point. What we can say is that even if two players learn the same arts, their characters will ultimately play very differently because of other factors such as which profession and race each picks.

Other than that, a player can level up his or her character by defeating enemies and gaining experience. Bonus points are assigned when each level is gained, so that players can more fully customize their characters as they want.
