Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening Reviews

If you haven’t yet dove into Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening, there are four more online reviews that might help sway your purchasing decision.

RPGamer gives it a 3.5/5:

And I did find it very worth pursuing most everything the game tossed at me. I wanted to improve my Keep and keep my townsfolk happy and safe. My party members became people I wanted to invest more time in to help out. My desire to delve deep into dungeons to punish the darkspawn had not waned since my initial trek through Ferelden. Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening serves as a good stopgap between major releases, but it doesn’t fully satisfy the Dragon Age craving. While it had great original characters, it did little with them. The story offers a bridge between the original game and either a sequel or another novel, but does little to tie up any real loose ends. The game just needed more depth, more meaningful decisions to pine over, and more character interaction. With those things it could have worked as a smaller scale spin-off or sequel, but as is, it’s Dragon Age 1.5. It was never meant to be anything more than an expansion, but with so much untapped potential lurking within its story, it feels like it could have been. As such, I often felt like I was judging Awakening as a full game because it was so close to being one, but it’s not. BioWare has crafted more Dragon Age with lots of what made the original amazing, but just missing some key pieces.

GamingTrend gives it a 90/100:

The only part that stings a little bit is the price tag , but when you equate it to roughly 8 full-priced DLC packs which would normally be 2-3 hours each, you can see that it’s about the price we’ve been paying all along for great content like Return to Ostagar. One would hope for a slight price break given that you are buying it all at once, but you won’t have that thought in your head once you start playing. If you enjoyed Dragon Age: Origins, this is must have expansion.

GamerInside gives it an 80/100:

Awakening is just that, an awakening, for both players and fans of the Dragon Age. No small DLCs, no small item packs, this is an expansion pack with new story, characters and whatnot that allows you to bring the story of your champion to an end. The blight is finally over and considering things learned in this game, next Dragon Age is going to be epic.

And Gamereactor gives it a 9/10:

If I’m going to play the bitter card, I could whine about the fact that an expansion this filled with material is released less than 6 months after the original game (and then we’re not even counting all the DLC). Baldur’s Gate II, released in the “good old days”, had more material than this in the first box. But I’m not going to whine. Dragon Age: Origins is still one of the best roleplaying-experiences in a long time and if there is something worth paying for out there, this is it. Awakening adds another great campaign and gives us even more background to the plot together with more wonderful characters. The combat system is still as genial (at least on PC) and the new possibilities for some active roleplaying are all welcome.
