Divinity II: Ego Draconis Reviews

The weekend has brought us another trio of mediocre-to-favorable reviews for Larian Studios’ Divinity II: Ego Draconis.

GameSpot gives the game a 6.5/10:

Divinity II may draw you in despite its foibles. Flying about as a dragon, summoning your custom-made beast to your side, messing around with enchantments and charms–these elements are thoughtfully designed and inventive enough to be entertaining. But the disappointing story, glitchy AI, and all sorts of minor frustrations bog it down. If you’re a forgiving RPG fanatic, you may be able to overlook the faults and see this sequel for what it might have been. But great ideas don’t always make a great game, and Divinity II isn’t as slick and addictive as its predecessors, or as gripping and replayable as its modern competition.

1UP gives it a “B”:

Having said that, though, Divinity II genuinely surprised me; loathe as I am to admit it, I may have entertained the slightest of preconceived notions about the quality of the game, but Divinity II totally shattered them. It may not be ready to take on BioWare’s finest, but if you’re feeling an RPG (or dragon-riding) jones, you could come up with helluva worse ways to spend your coin.

And EndSights gives it a 2/5:

In the end, Divinity II can be described as mediocre. The game has an interesting premise that seems like it could work well given the right amount of effort on the core game mechanics and story flow. Lacking that focus, Divinity II cannot be recommended to the average player. I can see most people playing it up until the second or third story mission and never touching it again due to the unruly grind required.
