Divinity II: Ego Draconis Preview and Review

Divinity II’s staggered release has led to both previews and reviews being made available during the same timeframe.  That’s the case today, with a preview appearing at GameFocus:

Divinity II is unique, in that you are not required to choose a class when you begin, but rather you choose a starting weapon. You get to pick between a sword, bow or fireball spell, but you aren’t limited to a specific class. There are no skill trees, different skills are placed under seperate headings like priest, mage, warrior, ranger and dragon slayer. As long as you meet the level and statistical requirements for each skill, you are free to pick and choose any you wish. This, along with a system of switching between 3 different weapon sets, makes for very interesting character combinations. For instance, I levelled one of my characters to excel at both melee fighting and ranged fighting, so I could fire arrows and kite the melee baddies as well as rush in and go toe to toe with the ranged and spell casting baddies.

And a review appearing at Test Freaks with a score of 8/10:

Divinity II Ego Draconis is a great game really, I thoroughly enjoyed playing it from start to finish. In fact I’m thinking about going back and playing it again just to do complete all of the side quests. If you’re a fan of dragons and RPG games then you’ll want to add this to your list of must-have games in 2010, and you won’t have to wait long either, the release date is early January.
