Dissidia Final Fantasy NT announced for PS4 in 2018

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Square Enix’s massively popular arcade fighting game, is coming to the west on PS4 sometime in early 2018.

Developed by veteran studio Team Ninja, Dissidia originally released in arcades exclusively in Japan way back in November of 2015.
The game is based upon the two previously released PSP exclusives Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy (following the Final Fantasy naming tactic of just added random numbers and words) though the game reboots the story of the previous two games and has a significantly changed combat system.

Details of the games release come from the games Amazon page, where it is currently up for pre-order:

“Dissidia Final Fantasy NT introduces squad-based battle gameplay by allowing you to wage war with over 20 of your favorite Final Fantasy characters. Combining unparalleled visuals, seamless gameplay, and your favorite characters from the past 30 years of the franchise, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT welcomes all gamers with 3 vs. 3 battles and the series renowned “bravery combat system”. While aiming for supremacy, call forth familiar summons like Ifrit, Shiva, and Odin to aid you and your party! Square Enix is collaborating with Team Ninja, one of the world’s leading developers in the fighting game genre, to bring Dissidia Final Fantasy NT to life”

The game features over 20 Final Fantasy heroes and villains, ranging from the obligatory Cloud and Sephiroth to more obscure characters such as Ramza Beoulve of Final Fantasy Tactics and Ace of FF Type 0. The game will also include the addition of Noctis Lucis Caelum of Final Fantasy XV. The most recent Final Fantasy protagonist to be added to the roster.

The games narrative is written by veteran FF writer Kazushige Nojima (Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts, and Kingdom Hearts II) though it has been confirmed in a Japanese live stream that the game will not contain a traditional story mode, as the game is predominantly based on an arcade game. The narrative will be delivered through event scenes.

There will also be an experience and leveling up system present, allowing players to level up and customize their favourite Final Fantasy heroes (or villains)

The games combat system dubbed the bravery system will allow a much deeper and more methodical approach to the fighting game genre, separating luck from skill.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT (the nt stands for new tale, new trial, new tournament …. apparently) is set for a worldwide launch in early 2018 exclusively for the Playstation 4. the game will be playable at E3 2017, so expect more information to be revealed there.
