Deus Ex: Invisible War Reviews

Ion Storm’s Deus Ex: Invisible War is the subject of another pair of reviews on the ‘net. The first is at Flickerdown Data Systems with an overall score of 68%:

The controls are laid out in a manner easy enough for any console player to pick up and play. However, changes to accepted Xbox ‘˜norms’ make combat situations a little hairy. Most Xbox players have grown accustomed to clicking the left analogue stick to use a weapon’s zoom feature. In DX2 the left trigger has been relegated to zoom duty and clicking the left analogue stick merely allows the player to hear a wonderful ‘˜click’ sound. There are no melee attacks with any projectile based weapon, so letting an attacker get too close can be hazardous to your health. The controls are OK, and most people will get used to them fairly quickly. I just can’t seem to remember to press ‘˜Y’ to jump.

Although DX2 should have been a great game, it ended up being only mediocre. The graphics were nowhere near the quality they could have been, the sounds were lame, the voice acting was uninspired, the character development was pretty weak, and the AI was terrible. I did have fun playing the game, and there is a lot of replay value, but that’s where the gaming goodness stops. It seems as if the game was rushed out the door and into my house.
