Deus Ex: Invisible War Reviews

Two more fairly positive reviews have surfaced for Ion Storm’s Deus Ex: Invisible War. The first is at Deadalfs with an overall score of 7/10:

On a gigantic set of scales we have a complete disregard for so many elements that made the first game what it was on one end, and on the other, a technically competent freeform action title that deserves tremendous amounts of respect in it’s own right. I guess the real clincher is, (How does it play?) While the new Unreal tech provides a much more solid FPS environment than the first game, if all you want to do it shoot people you’d be better off playing Call of Duty or XIII. As an RPG, it’s far too simplistic. Luckily, DX:IW is neither of these stereotypes. Free from the shackles of statistics and headshots, it’s an art form in it’s own right. It’s slimmer in a way that will disappoint fans of the first game (myself included), but that’s not to say it’s shallow. Definitely not with the kind of thought provoking subject matter and twisting story arc herein. Diet Ex it may be, but not without a caffeine injection of player freedom and plotline to your daily gaming menu.

And the second is at Solinari Gaming with an overall score of 7.5/10:

Deus Ex: Invisible War has a lot to live up to, and if there was one man who could design a game just as good as the original, it’s Warren Spector. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out like it should have. Maybe it was because of the Xbox and PC versions, maybe it wasn’t. Deus Ex featured incredible gameplay along with a great story, and Invisible War has tried to mimic that gameplay only semi-successfully when it should be building upon the ideas of the first to create something original. Add to that a mildly interesting story, and you have a game that clearly strives for greatness but comes up way short. It’s definitely good, but not all it could have been.
