Deus Ex: Invisible War Articles on GameSpy

On GameSpy, you’ll find two new articles concerning Deus Ex: Invisible War, one written by their own staff and the other written by Ion Storm. The one written by the GameSpy staff is called “Deus Ex: Invisible War Pile On!” and talks about the game’s pros and cons:

As someone who’s never played the original I found Invisible War to be immediately interesting nonetheless. Its combination of politically rich story and open-ended gameplay is an intoxicating mix. While I feel the ballyhoo surrounding “emergent gameplay” to be slightly overblown, I have to admit that the decision to give you freedom to react to a situation how you see fit is a compelling one — even if it doesn’t necessarily make other games’ design choices obsolescent. I’ve never been that keen on stealth games but I found myself gravitating towards hiding in IW because that’s how I’d really approach these situations — but when a new way to play presented itself I could mix up my style if I wanted. Too cool.

The one written by Ion Storm is called “Deus Ex: Invisible War Magic Moments” and provides some interesting scenarios the team has experienced in the game:

“It was truly satisfying to cause so much chaos without firing a shot or ever being seen.”

Devin Krieg, QA: Setting turrets as allies can have quite a few advantages. In the WTO hanger I had just activated the pilot beacon when 3 guards came running into the area. I had set a missle turret as an ally long ago and now it was firing at one of the guards. I waited in the shadows and watched as all the guards and bots in the area ran to investigate the explosions. I was tempted to go see how their battle went but I had a chopper to catch. As I made my way to the chopper I could hear gunfire and explosions coming from the north side of the hanger. Before catching my ride I took one glance back and caught sight of a guard being hurled into the air. It was truly satisfying to cause so much chaos without firing a shot or ever being seen.
